The East of the city, with its strategic location, population growth and rapid urbanization, has become an urgent problem that needs to be solved. In order to improve the situation and reduce traffic congestion, Ho Chi Minh City has prepared to implement 4 key traffic projects with a total investment of up to thousands of billions of VND. These routes will not only reduce the load on existing routes but also promote the development of the East of the city, connecting large urban areas and industrial zones, creating a synchronous and modern traffic infrastructure.

1. Cat Lai – Phu Huu Inter-Port Road
One of the most important routes in the strategy to solve traffic congestion in the East is Cat Lai – Phu Huu Inter-Port Road, about 8,5 km long, connecting Cat Lai Port with Phu Huu area. This is a route that plays a strategic role in connecting ports and economic areas, reducing the load on existing routes such as Hanoi Highway. With a total investment of 5.000 billion VND, the project will create a new traffic route, helping to reduce congestion at Cat Lai Port – the place with the largest traffic and cargo volume in Ho Chi Minh City.

This route will provide maximum support for the transportation of goods, reduce congestion at port areas and help increase the smoothness of the Long Thanh – Dau Giay Expressway. The project is expected to start construction at the end of 2025 and be completed within three years. This is a major step forward in developing infrastructure in the East of Ho Chi Minh City, especially in improving the efficiency of freight transportation.
2. Hanoi Highway – Ring Road 3
Project Hanoi Highway – Ring Road 3 is one of the largest and most important projects in the plan to improve traffic in the East of Ho Chi Minh City. This route will connect Hanoi Highway with Ring Road 3, helping to reduce the load on one of the roads with the highest traffic density in the city today. With a total investment of about 7.000 billion VND, the project will create a new smooth lane, contributing to reducing congestion in key areas such as Thu Duc City, District 9, and industrial parks in the East.

This route not only solves the problem of traffic jams but also contributes to the development of suburban areas, helping to quickly connect Ho Chi Minh City with neighboring provinces such as Dong Nai and Binh Duong. The project is expected to start construction in 2025 and be completed in 2027, bringing long-term benefits to traffic and urban development.
3. Closed Ring 2
Belt Road 2 is one of the important routes connecting suburban areas of Ho Chi Minh City, but is currently only partially completed. closed Ring Road 2 will connect areas such as Phu Huu, Vo Nguyen Giap and Pham Van Dong, helping to reduce traffic on current inner-city routes. This is an indispensable part of Ho Chi Minh City’s traffic development strategy.

With a total investment of more than VND13.000 billion, this project will create a complete ring road, helping to solve congestion problems at key intersections of the city, especially areas with high traffic density such as Phu Huu and Pham Van Dong. The project is expected to start construction at the end of 2025 and be completed in 2027, completing a strong connecting traffic system in the Ho Chi Minh City urban area.
4. Expanding the Ho Chi Minh City – Long Thanh Expressway
Although the Ho Chi Minh City – Long Thanh Expressway currently plays an important role in connecting Ho Chi Minh City with the Eastern provinces, with increasing traffic volume, this route is facing serious congestion, especially during rush hour. Ho Chi Minh City – Long Thanh Expressway expansion will solve this problem by increasing the number of lanes, improving traffic capacity and connecting more conveniently between Ho Chi Minh City and the Southeast provinces.

With a total investment of VND8.000 billion, the project will expand the road sections leading from National Highway 1A to the area near Dong Nai Bridge. This is an important project not only to reduce traffic congestion but also to promote economic development in the Southeast region. The project is expected to start in 2025 and be completed in 2027.
Benefits and Impacts of Projects
When completed, these four transport projects will not only solve traffic congestion in the East of Ho Chi Minh City but also contribute to improving the quality of life of the people. A smooth transport system will help reduce traffic accidents, save travel time, and create conditions for development in neighboring urban areas.
In addition, these projects also contribute to economic development, creating opportunities to expand industrial and residential zones, improving labor productivity and promoting trade, especially between Ho Chi Minh City and the Eastern provinces.
Ho Chi Minh City is making constant efforts to solve existing traffic problems. With the implementation of these projects, the East of Ho Chi Minh City promises to become a strongly developed area, with a modern and closely connected traffic system, creating a solid foundation for sustainable development in the future.
