Thao Dien Villa 911 showcases contemporary architecture thoughtfully designed for tropical climates by VACO Design. The design reflects the minimalist lifestyle of a discerning young homeowner with a passion for fine automobiles.
The villa’s most striking feature is its expansive glass walls and steel louvers on the second floor. Drawing inspiration from Le Corbusier’s iconic Villa Savoye, the entire structure resembles a steel pavilion elevated on columns, liberating the ground floor from conventional walls. This design employs extensive glazing instead, creating seamless visual connections between interior spaces.
To maintain privacy from neighboring properties, the designer strategically oriented all functional spaces to be “open internally while closed externally.” Between the adjacent villas, a row of coconut trees provides natural screening. Given Saigon’s tropical monsoon climate, Villa 911 features a four-meter-long overhang that encircles the structure, mitigating heat gain and reducing light intensity. This deep eave allows natural light filtering through the courtyard to permeate the interior as soft, diffused illumination, creating an understated elegance. The use of warm, neutral wood tones complements this subdued lighting, imbuing the spaces with tranquil sophistication.
A distinctive feature of this villa is its open-concept garage. The parking area opens directly to the courtyard, ensuring continuous air circulation while minimizing exhaust odors—and more importantly, allowing the owner to appreciate his automotive collection from the main living areas. The living room notably eschews conventional wall décor in favor of showcasing the homeowner’s prized vehicles as the focal point of the space.
