Marriott International History
Marriott was founded by John Willard Marriott in 1927 when he and his wife, Alice Sheets Marriott, opened a root beer stand in Washington, DC – this was the launching pad for Marriott's food and beverage business venture.
In 1937, recognizing the dining needs of passengers on newly opened airlines, he quickly seized the opportunity to establish a company specializing in airline meal service.
Subsequently, government contracts for military canteens and later food supply contracts for factories, including General Motors and Ford, helped Marriott expand rapidly.
In 1957, the first JW Marriott hotel opened, marking a major transformation in the company's history.
By 1967, to meet the growing market demand, Marriott began developing different room types for various social classes ranging from luxury, mid-range, budget, and long-term stays.
In 1993, Marriott International was established. By 1995, Marriott became the first hotel chain to offer customers online booking services through an automated reservation system.

Creating Vietnam's first Branded Residences project
As the world's largest hotel group, Marriott International officially partnered with Masterise Homes from January 2021 to create Vietnam's first Branded Residences project, making it the largest scale Branded Residence project in the world under the Marriott brand.
Previously, the Marriott group collaborated with other Vietnamese groups such as Bitexco and Sun Group to build 2 premium hotels in Hanoi (JW Marriott Hanoi) and Phu Quoc (JW Marriott Phu Quoc Emerald Bay).
The cooperation agreement between Masterise Homes and Marriott International will bring Marriott's most prestigious brand, The Ritz Carlton, to the Vietnamese market for the first time.
Additionally, two other premium product lines – Marriott and JW Marriott – will provide customers with unprecedented experiences in Branded Residences communities.
